There are different risk types of young adults for the development of a mental disorder: the learning disabled, children and adolescents with mental disorders (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, depressions, substance abuse), college dropouts, severely ill people, relatives of cancer patients and unaccompanied refugees.

In the current care situation, there is a lack of school psychologists and social workers. Also, there is an insufficient transition to the adult care and networking among the providers of psycho-social care. A current need is to enhance knowledge in the area of child and adolescent psychiatry. Moreover, there should be anti-stigma campaigns and more offers of support for psycho-social problems.

Sponsorships for young adults could be part of an innovative care concept. Relatives of cancer patients should be involved in the therapy process.
